I originally trained as a biologist, gaining a PhD in Agricultural Botany. After my children were born, I changed career and have been sharing my love of science with children and adults of all ages.
I particularly like developing ideas with pupils in special needs schools which can then be used in any setting because they are so sensory, they engage everyone!
I also write about science for children’s magazines.
I have three children, age 14, 12 and 10, and a very cheeky doggo called Nova.
My pronouns are she/her.

I have an unusual way of making new science shows. I start by making the activities work for pupils with special needs. This way, I consider different ways to make the activity appeal to the senses. It means I can make my science reach someone sensory impaired or with limited mobility. It also means that I can reach everyone, no matter what their learning style. The detail in the scientific content is easily changed and tailored to the audience, so long as the underlying structure is there.
You like hands-on? You can touch this!
You have a visual impairment? Feel the vibrations from the equipment, hear the sound of the motor. They both change as you vary the speed.
You find it hard to sit still at your desk? Then lets get started quickly. I need you to listen to some key instructions then its your turn.

My Typical Day:
I start my day by getting my children to school, then I can focus on science. Some days, I will drive to a school, set up in the hall and deliver science shows or workshops all day. Its usually primary or special needs schools but I also work at science festivals. On other days, I make a cup of tea and sit down to write about science. Usually this involves inventing and testing experiments for children’s science magazines. My kitchen worktop is usually covered in equipment as I strive to make an experiment perfect!
